My first "project."

September 15th, 2006 at 10:28 pm

I'm interested in the "cash only" method of managing my money. Is it as simple as withdrawing money at the beginning of each week and placing it in separate envelopes for different expenses?

Also, how have my fellow bloggers gone about convincing a stubborn husband that this is a worthwhile thing to try?

I haven't done this cash only business in a long while (didn't work for me) BUT if wanting to convince mine I'd try it myself first on the things I spend for - keeping track of my successes and failures somewhere ---oh, I don't know---like here maybe in your blog. And then once I had a small track record GO TO the convincing!

I mean you don't want to convince him of something that turns out to be a failure for you personally do you? Nahhhh. Try it, work out the kinks and then do the convincing!

I have done the cash only, in the envelopes for 41 years and it has worked great for me. My husband is self employed and works by the hour. I pay him on Monday, cash the check and go home, get out my written budget, and put the cash in the envelopes.
Twice a month I pay the bills from the cash money and deposit it into my checking account.
I tried once, doing it on paper, and it just didn't work for me, this does.
